Inspection Suggestions

• DO bring a current registration and $29.00 to the sales counter.
• BE READY! Your vehicle needs to be fully inspectable upon arrival. Go to Mass RMV website for more information.
• DO NOT expect to be in and out in 10 minutes. On average, the inspection procedure takes about 18 minutes, give or take.
• DO have the proper plate configuration. If your plate has a white background with a green outline, or is a repair plate with proper sales tax compliance decal, you only need one. ALL other vehicles require two permanently attached plates without exception.
• DO your best to avoid the end-of-the-month rush. During the last 3 days of any inspection month, or during the first 3 days of the following month, it is not unusual to wait 3 hours or more.
• The RMV prohibits appointments and therefore all inspections are done on a first come, first served basis.
• Should you fail, you are entitled to one free retest after repairs have been made. This must be done witin 60 days at the same inspection station that did the original test. You do have the right to be re-inspected at a different station; if you elect to do this, your free retest is forfeited.
